Bluey and the Green Cord Hike (Part 3)
After forty-five minutes or so (I lost count), the Scouts took off back the way they came. Only this time they seemed less exhausted as they crossed over the bridge. Probably from the stop. Anyway, they carried along the same bike path until there was a split in the path. They took the left one, which took them to another bridge, although this one wasn't over water. I still didn't want to be dropped though.
They continued along the pathway until they reached the end of the last fire break again, and they followed it back to the small bridge that was over water. They then took a large loop that brought them back right to where they started. They walked over the bridge, and Heath completely missed the turn-off that was obviously marked and written on the map. Aimee and Hayley corrected him though, and they were soon back on track. They then followed that track to a dog park, and took a break there. Right on cue, around five dogs showed up all at once. They were all licky and slobbery, so I stayed undercover with Lucas until he went to get a drink from the water fountain, so I was passed over to Hayley, who also protected me from the slobber.
They left the park, with a cute puppy trailing them, back onto the path they took earlier. That path was nicer as it was mainly covered by trees and had the river next to it for most of the way. They walked along the empty riverbed and jumped over stones, then came out onto a grassy plain. To our left was the river, and to our right was some trees. Turns out some of these Scouts really liked to climb trees. And take me with them. After being dropped, head first from a height of two metres, they continued with their journey.
We took some paths behind stranger's houses, and ended up at Fern Park Playground. They stopped there for a little while too, checking out the books at the small bookshelf, but again there was nothing there. The boys in the group stayed with Kiwi outside a restaurant, while the two girls ran out to play on a rubber hammock. Well, at least I wasn't being tossed ar- never mind.
They left the Playground half an hour early, and journeyed towards a path through the bush. That path came out onto a road, but they followed the path along it, stopping whilst they were under a bridge to look at the beautiful chalk drawing underneath. I even took out my camera to take a picture (see below). They kept going for another couple hundred metres and arrived at Canning Sea Scouts, but fumbled a bit while trying to find the keys to open the gate. At last, the gate was open and they dropped their bags down in a super grassy area. The grass was almost twice my height! Before I could drown in it, someone perched me atop their bag. While I was sitting there, watching their every move, they set up their tents, Aimee and Hayley finishing first as they had the smallest tent, but still unloading the rest of their stuff by the time the others had finished.
They went around to the back of the Hall to prepare boiling water for dinner, and were surprised when it took just less than an hour for Darien's pot to even begin to simmer, and everyone else had just gotten their water from Kiwi, whose had boiled five times as fast. They all ate their cups of noodles as I ate my calamari, observing their troop council. Most of the important dates do the term were written down, plus some things that they needed to get done. After that they all went to bed and Dion left the group.
